Mediation is a consensual process in which parties engaged in a dispute are empowered to negotiate their own confidential resolution with the assistance of a mediator, an independent and neutral third party. It has become a critical component of the litigation process, as it allows parties to achieve some form of compromised settlement. However, the success or failure of a mediation can depend upon the mediator, and his/her commitment to the process.
Verjee & Associates has a team that is passionate about the role of mediation in the dispute resolution process and takes great satisfaction in helping parties avoid the risk, time, expense and aggravation associated with “traditional” litigation.
David B. Kitchen of Verjee & Associates has been recognized as a Best Lawyer in Canada and a leading litigator. Along with his role of advocate and mediator, and over 17 years of problem-solving experience, he has assisted clients in resolving their disputes through negotiation and advocacy. He now brings the same skills to the role of a mediator. In order to enhance his skill-set with a focus on mediation, David has completed the STARS program at the Straus Institute for Conflict Resolution through Pepperdine University. This program allowed him to meet and learn from leading mediators in North America and to develop enhanced tools, strategies and negotiation techniques to utilize as a mediator.
